I sent "JCB speaks!" privately to Nick, so he replied privately, but his reply is mostly of a public character, so I am publishing it here with some omissions of the irrelevantly personal. ----- Forwarded message from Nick Nicholas <opoudjis@hidden.email> ----- Date: Thu, 07 Aug 2003 15:31:15 +1000 From: Nick Nicholas <opoudjis@hidden.email> Subject: Re: James Cooke Brown speaks! To: John Cowan <cowan@hidden.email> [...] Conflating set and collective would not be very harmful, although a disambiguating LAhE still won't kill us. But if that proves to annul CLL, and if we're to sacrifice backward compatibility with Lojban to be backward compatible with Loglan, I think you know what torrent of obscenities that unleashes in me. I think the Kind and Stuff conflation is going in directions I don't want. If I wanted rampant conflation, after all, I'd stick with the CLL ambiguity of loi. We want to be able to talk of Kind of Stuff as distinct from Kind of Individual and Kind of Collective; I reject the elimination of that realisation. So John, I guess I'm out-Catholicing the pope here. Very interesting to hear that's what JCB meant, and even more argument for elevating Kind into the paradigm. But I will not surrender backward compatibility with CLL-loi, and I don't like conflating Kind and Stuff; that's a metaphysical bias (if not muddle) I will do without. Factor in my proxy hatred of Loglan [...], and I am in all not going along with it. The people need to hear this anyway, and I encourage you to post this very summary on the wiki. -- [ Nick Nicholas.
