Welcome to the Yahoo Groups Conlang Archive! This website contains conlang-related messages and other items that were once hosted at the now defunct Yahoo Groups. Yahoo Groups was a free hub for membership communities (groups) founded on specific interests. Yahoo Groups provided a mailing list, file hosting, and other services. It was created in 2001, absorbing two earlier entities, i.e. eGroups.com and Yahoo Clubs, and shut down in 2020. A number of conlang-related groups were active between those years.
This website attempts to preserve the data of some of these groups. The preserved data includes messages, files, and links, and less often database tables and polls. It also includes metadata on these areas. Not all the groups had data in all these areas.
In some cases, it was not possible to preserve all data that once existed. Many files were lost because the file system on the Yahoo servers was apparently somehow corrupted, making it impossible to download some files. Yahoo's "GetMyData" service was woefully inadequate and incomplete and Yahoo's technical representatives were totally AWOL. In some cases, the preservation effort was hampered because the group owner was not around to approve new memberships.
As the archivist of this project, I Mike have tried to preserve whatever data I could as accurately as possible, making only a couple changes to it:
If you prefer your email address to be visible, let me know and I will make it visible. I can also update all your old email addresses to your current email address if you tell me what they were. (I have done this for my own email addresses.)
One minor thing I am not happy with at the moment is the heavy use of ">" characters to indent quotes in emails. It would make the messages look prettier and more legible to replace this style of indentation with html blockquotes, so that's something I may do in the future, if I can find an easy and reliable way of accomplishing this improvement.
