ESAPs from the same predicate can merge additively but not intersectively. The rationale for that is simply utility and making best use of inflectional space. Even the ordering "mother and child are well" works thus:
X is mother of Y
Additive: X&Y
Z is well
Intersective: Z+(X&Y)

(In 2D-Livagian notation, which aims to be notationally minimalist, intersective is the only type of merger.)
