Why impossible?  I would assume a Muslim North Africa
was settled from North Africa, and North Africa has
had periods of being Shi`a.  The Fatmids started out
in Tunisia before moving east to Egypt.  And weren't
some of the various Moroccan dynasties Shi`a?
