IIRC, most of Romance languages do exactly what you say.
Cases (1) and (2) are obvious.
Case (3):
Fr. marquis > It. marchese
Oc. trobador > It. trovatore
It. cartoccio > Fr. cartouche
It. sentinella > Es. centinela
Fr. jardin > Es. jardín
Es. ayudante > Fr. adjudant
