"Silence gives consent" is a fair assumption in a group for decision and action such as the byfy. On this list, silence ought not to be interpreted as anything but silence.
Even so, I hope that voting periods for byfy will be long enough that one need not be reading every day in order to not miss a vote. On jboske, missing one day's messages can leave you lost. With a wiki, you can go back to the beginning and vote. The latter is not tenable for a byfy that wants to get things done, but the 10 day voting period with a reminder near the end, that we used for the policy statement was in fact a pretty good estimate of what it took to maximize the vote. A smaller byfy might shorten that period somewhat, but except for critical issues that other issues depend on (like zi'o for the discussion of tu'o and gadri), it is hard to see a reason for minimizing the voting time.
But I'll see what Nick actually implements before I complain %^) lojbab -- lojbab lojbab@hidden.email Bob LeChevalier, President, The Logical Language Group, Inc. 2904 Beau Lane, Fairfax VA 22031-1303 USA 703-385-0273 Artificial language Loglan/Lojban: http://www.lojban.org
