[please excuse the intrusion of a bit of idle chat] Reading this thread reminds me of the curious and hard to explain fact that I have no interest in epistemology whatever. Perhaps because, without realizing it, I'm a solipsist? It's curious, though, given that all other major branches of philosophy interest me. But it ties in with what xod was saying about the motivation for his interest in Lojban -- the fact that language is of no epistemological utility seems to whet his interest in more metaphysical aspects. --And. > la xod cusku di'e > > >You'd be irrational if you followed the "paradox" and, even after > >performing that weighing and learning that some coins are fake, each time > >I hold up one of the coins you insist (without weighing it) that you are > >certain it's not one of the bad ones > > But I will insist, because for each coin my scale says it is good > If you say otherwise, it must be because your scale says otherwise > I might have to adjust my scale if you convince me that your scale > is better for some reason (I won't believe that your scale has > infinite precision either), but my scale is all I have to decide > So for each coin, I will say it is true.
