Okay, Nick, here's the decision I've come to (I reserve the right to change my mind of course). If the BF tries to tread a fine line between fundamentalism and revisionism it will be too painful, because there'll be too much arguing. I'll participate on either of two premises: (I) The BF is nonnegotiably fundamentalist, and the CLL is right in every respect where it cannot be shown to unsalvageably contradictory or in conflict with basic Loglan principles. The BF will work to complete the documentation of Standard Lojban (Catnyjbo). (II) I participate in the BF with the goal of defining Academic Lojban (Skejbo), not with the goal of seeking consensus with fundamentalists. BF decisions can be decided not by consensus but by majority vote between a fundamentalist consensus and a progressivist consensus (Academic Lojban). In addition I will try to work in collaboration with others to develop and document Academic Lojban, conceived as a nonradical Lojban Mark 2 designed to have continuity with Lojban Mark 1 in terms of the effort required to learn it (so not redoing vocab from scratch, say). It will be impossible to develop Academic Lojban on the basis of consensus across the community. Instead, it will have to be developed by consensus among the Progressivists, if it is to be developed at all. My hope is that it would then recruit from those disillusioned with Standard Lojban. I don't want to wait 50 years to begin on Academic Lojban; I am interested in Lojban only because it holds out the promise of something that Academic Lojban would strive to realize. The BF can choose to try to emulate in SL bits of AL in the hope that SL will become good enough to stop people preferring AL. I want to stop wrangling over Lojban, given that no satisfactory consensus or compromise over monolithic Lojban is possible. So instead I will push for the Three Dialects solution. If anybody harangues me over that, I shall invite them to raise it at the AGM. --And.
