Invent Yourself scripsit: > "There are one or more doctors that I need", eh? And why is this wrong? > It's safe to assert that doctors exist, isn't it? And the one or more can > apply to all/any of the doctors, yes? Sort of. Normally, needing a doctor is taken to mean that any doctor will satisfy you, which is much stronger than saying "there exists a doctor that I need" (neglecting the issue of number here). The latter is true e.g. if Dr. Jones is fine but Dr. Brown will not do. So instead we make it "I need that someone doctors me". -- John Cowan jcowan@hidden.email http://www.ccil.org/~cowan http://www.reutershealth.com Thor Heyerdahl recounts his attempt to prove Rudyard Kipling's theory that the mongoose first came to India on a raft from Polynesia. --blurb for _Rikki-Kon-Tiki-Tavi_
