Re: [jboske] unresolved debates

If they don't have to be evenly spaced, then what's the difference
between viewing them as a single scale or viewing them as having
'different' meaning for the so'[ae] vs. so'[iou] ones? Our scale
would essentially be the same thing:

     |****-*****--************ ... ******-******--|
     no so'u so'o so'i so'e so'a ro

seems to be what everyone's talking about, continuous scale or no...

Your diagram seems to agree that there is a qualitative break
between so'i and so'e. We can't know what sort of quantity so'e
and so'a represent if we don't know at least approximately the
size of ro. On the other hand, so'u, so'o and so'i are independent
of ro, they have a meaning of their own even if we have no idea
what ro is.
