new, young

Is it necessary to make a distinction between 'young' and 'new', or is that an anglophone's prejudice?  I currently have "gil" for "age" (from Hebrew), and derived from that, "pigil" young, and "gagil" old.  I kind of think I do need to have a distinction, because

I bought a new dog.  vs.  I bought a young dog.

OTOH, the distinction is masked in "I bought a new car."

Maybe I need to base the 'new' root on 'recent.'
