The latter sounds suspiciously like a calque on "Ausland". John Cowan jcowan@hidden.email http://www.ccil.org/~cowan
Don't be so suspicious! ;-)The variant Hhutza La'aretz, with extra /a/, is attested at least as far back as the Mishna (first published codification of the Oral Tradition), c.200CE.
Order Tahara (Purity), Tractate Para (Cow), Chapter 2, Rule 1:"Rabbi Eli`ezer says, a pregnant cow is valid for a _Hhatat_ offering; but the other sages declare it invalid. Rabbi Eli`ezer says, [for this offering] it can not be acquired from a Non-Jew; but the other sages declare it valid. And not only that, but all communal and individual offerings can come from The Land or from Outside The Land (_hhutza la'aretz_), and can be [if they are grain offerings] from new or old grain - except for the _`Omer_ and the Two Loaves, which can only be made of new grain from The Land."
