I'considering to change the transcription of Raamaniyaan a little, more exactly the representation of the phonemes /&/ and /A/. Currently I have them as _a_ and _aa_, which is ASCII-friendly, and hopefully intuitive to English speakers as well. The proposed reform is of course to use single _a_ for /A/ and _æ_ for /&/. It would become easier not least for myself to remember the correct pronunciation, but I would lose ASCII compatibility -- and ease of typing on computers which don't have a Norwegian or Danish keyboard layout installed! :) Moreover I almost *should* introduce s-caron and z-caron (and _c x q_ rather than _ch kh gh_) at the same time, which entails more typo-technical problems. Also I do have a concultural explanation for the kludgy Anglo-typewriter transcription. ================================== I have decided to keep _fi_ for 'son' (and _fiye_ for daughter) as it makes for nice-sounding patronymics like Hoseyn fi Ali Kavayazh. /BP 8^) -- B.Philip Jonsson mailto:melrochX@hidden.email (delete X) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__ A h-ammen ledin i phith! \ \ __ ____ ____ _____________ ____ __ __ __ / / \ \/___ \\__ \ /___ _____/\ \\__ \\ \ \ \\ \ / / / / / / / \ / /Melroch\ \_/ // / / // / / / / /___/ /_ / /\ \ / /'Aestan ~\_ // /__/ // /__/ / /_________//_/ \_\/ /Eowine __ / / \___/\_\\___/\_\ Gwaedhvenn Angeliniel\ \______/ /a/ /_h-adar Merthol naun ~~~~~~~~~Kuinondil~~~\________/~~\__/~~~Noolendur~~~~~~ || Lenda lenda pellalenda pellatellenda kuivie aiya! || "A coincidence, as we say in Middle-Earth" (JRR Tolkien)
