The Ottomans came a few hundred years later. In practice the latter established a new dynasty which took over much of the Selcuk population, which had spread also to Iraq, Syria and Palestine. In fact most of the lordlings in the area when the crusaders came there were Selcuks. Their internal rivalry and disorganization was what gave the French their initial successes! The man who changed this, Salah-ad-Din, was a Kurd, BTW. FWIW there was a Turkish guy named _Selcuk_ at my primary school. /BP 8^) -- B.Philip Jonsson mailto:melrochX@hidden.email (delete X) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__ A h-ammen ledin i phith! \ \ __ ____ ____ _____________ ____ __ __ __ / / \ \/___ \\__ \ /___ _____/\ \\__ \\ \ \ \\ \ / / / / / / / \ / /Melroch\ \_/ // / / // / / / / /___/ /_ / /\ \ / /'Aestan ~\_ // /__/ // /__/ / /_________//_/ \_\/ /Eowine __ / / \___/\_\\___/\_\ Gwaedhvenn Angeliniel\ \______/ /a/ /_h-adar Merthol naun ~~~~~~~~~Kuinondil~~~\________/~~\__/~~~Noolendur~~~~~~ || Lenda lenda pellalenda pellatellenda kuivie aiya! || "A coincidence, as we say in Middle-Earth" (JRR Tolkien)
