This discussion has been very helpful: firstly, because I had never twigged
that the words making up a "standard" dialect are likely to have come from
different dialects which may have had different sound change tendencies;
secondly, because this gives me an excuse for some of the slight
inconsistencies/artistic licence/aesthetic tweaking that characterise my
conlangs, particularly Jameld.
