Spanish gets along quite fine with 1st and 3rd person singular being merged in the imperfect, only requiring pronouns if it would otherwise be ambiguous. So, I think it'd work out just fine.
Likewise the 1st person singular and 3d person singular
present of _essere_ are both _sono_ in Italian, but
that's usually no problem.
