I'm looking for the names of some odd spices (constituens of the North African spice mix, qalat dagga) in any and all of the Romance languages (and Arabic!). there is a really useful website I usually consult on spice names which conviniently lists the names of dozens of spices in dozens of languages, but this time it has failed me. Some of these "spices" are pretty strange -- a few I've never heard of in English, or was, at least, unaware of their use as spices. anyway, here's the list: Ash berry (perhaps black ash berry or mountain ash berry?) Belladonna Chufa nut (also called earth almond, ground almond or rush nut) Monk's pepper Orris root (Florentine giaggiolo?) Spanish fly beetle (?!?!?) Also needed at this juncture is the etymology of the Italian/Spanish word avellana, French aveline, meaning hazelnut. Other ingredients for this spice mix have already been named in Carrajenna. Thanks for any help you can render. Adam the ever-searching Jin xividjilud djal suu ed falud ul Jozevu pomu instanchid ul andjelu djul Dominu sivi, ed idavi achibid jun al su sposa.
