Otherwise you can use EI and OV as *spellings* for /i:/ and /u:/

ATL Lucus does just that.  Greek did something similar as you know.

Yes, I thought about that, though a) I worry that I would confuse myself as to whether I meant /ei/ or /i:/ for orthographic "ei", and b) I actually do kinda want to preserve the diphthong just to make things that little bit more different from regular Latin :)
