IPA = International Phonetic Alphabet; there are several schemes for representing it in good old seven-bit characters.
http://www2.arts.gla.ac.uk/IPA/ipachart.html http://www.kirshenbaum.net/IPA/ http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/sampa/home.htm http://homepages.tcp.co.uk/~laker/ipa/ http://www.cs.brown.edu/~dpb/ascii-ipa.html Of course IPA has its block of Unicode: http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/wells/ipa-unicode.htm
I'm already planning [slight] modification to the Arabic letters in Dar-al-Mar as it is.
