Either they can't analyse the Latin phrase, in which case
it becomes _mjakulpa_, or they can analyse it, in which
case it becomes _mejaklpa_. I see no room for a middle
ground here, unless CULPA had died out, which in itself is
not necessary, since Italian keeps _colpa_.
