En réponse à James Campbell :
I have a Danish friend who uses the expression "It sounds like Volapük to me" (rough translation from the Danish). The first time I heard her say it I almost fell off my chair. She maintains it's a common expression.
I've indeed heard that it was a common expression in some languages, including Danish (not French, we have Chinese and Hebbrew for that part ;)) ). FWIW, it's also the expression in Esperanto ;))) (I heard the verb "volapuki" for "speaking in an ununderstanble language" ;)) ).
