I can see no reason to regard 'sitting' as the opposite of 'standing'. You may as well say 'breathing' is the opposite of 'eating'. Or indeed to say 'seeing' is the opposite of 'hearing'. > In the same way, the opposite of 'sweet' (classifier "-co") is given as > 'bitter' ("-kay"). To me the opposite of 'sweet' is closer to 'sour'. > Considering that flavors are composed of four basic tastes (sweet, sour, bitter, and > salty), I wouldn't think any of them would be real opposites of any of the others. Some things just don't have opposites. Flavours I think are among them. Arguably, the same applies to colours. In fact, I suspect that it makes no sense to group any physical sensations into binary opposites, except *maybe* 'pleasure' and 'pain'. It is possible to experience a 'sharp, shooting pain', but i can't imagine a corresponding pleasure. What's the opposite of an itch? An orgasm? The taste of olive oil?
