Title: Re: [katanda] maymavibe
stefo,
"maymavibe" can't be a valid word. "vibe" is
a (modal) disjunct that takes one argument, a clause. saying
"mavibe" asserts that the probability of the preceding
clause is "vibe", while at the same time using "ma-"
to suppress expressing it since it is known from context.
the same is true of "myavibe", etc.
the "ma-" on "mavibenza" (F-s [-P]) means the
first argument (patient) of "vibenza" (P/F-s) is
suppressed. same function, different result.

stevo,
i understand this. but maybe i just wanted to provoke a reaction.
:)
a modal disjunct is an open word, like transitive (middle-voiced)
verbs. i don't understand why we use two types of verbs, the modal
disjunct and the normal verb. we just have to understand who has been
canceled out in the argument structure of a modal disjunct.

Be bagonta bumeze va fudi bumespu =

but who is it that accepts as possible that there is some ice in
the refrigerator? is it me? then i could say it directly: "benza
mi bagonta bumeze va fudi bumespu".
but maybe it's more than just a demotion of a core argument. i
think by "be" one expresses that neither you nor me know it
for sure if there is still some ice left, and that you could as well
accept it as possible, too that there is some.
