Lesson 12: "poor Mary" ?=? "Kamaryabyo busensa"

In this sentence (#16) from Lesson 12,

> Poor Mary cleaned the empty refrigerator with her tears.
Nagompa Kamaryabyo busensa bumespu bubitsanto xomse vevyu
  maho.

while "poor Mary" CAN be taken literally ("unmoneyed"), as done here, it almost never is MEANT literally.  In this case it usually means something more like "pitiful", "pitiable", "pathetic".  How would one obtain this figurative sense using the word "busensa"?

It's also unusual to see an adjective modifying a name, at least so far in Katanda.  Are names treated any differently from ordinary nouns in this regard?
