I'm interested in trying to apply some of the ideas in Lexical Semantics to Dublex. Trying to apply the techniques is a great way for me to really learn them. Paul Bartlett posted Interglossa's closed verb set to AUXLANG today. It would be interesting to transform this list into a LexSem approach. Verboid | Subject | Direct Object | Ind Obj (preceded by a(d)) --------+----------------+-------------------+---------------------------- acouste | hearer | stimulus | -- acte | performer | performance | victim balle | motive agent | what is moved | -- | (sender) | | -- date | giver | what is given | recipient detecte | finder | what is found | -- dicte | speaker | what is said | audience esthe | person | -- | -- facte | maker | product | -- gene | receiver | acquisition | -- habe | possessor | what is possessed | -- kine | mover | -- | -- mote | motive agent | what is moved | destination | (mover) | | -- perde | loser | what is lost | -- reacte | what reacts | stimulus | -- stimule | exciting agent | response | -- tene | keeper | what is kept | -- tracte | motive agent | what is removed | -- | (remover) | | -- vise | seer | stimulus | -- X acte A Y | X performs the action A on Y X date A Y | X confers the attribute A on Y X detecte A Y | X discovers the property A of Y X dicte A Y | X conveys the communication A to Y X esthe A Y | X experiences the sentiment A towards Y X gene A EX Y | X acquires the attribute A from Y X habe A DE Y | X has the attribute A in relation to Y X perde A CAUSO Y | X loses the attribute A because of Y X reacte A Y | X responds to the stimulus A applied to Y X stimule A Y | X evokes the response A from Y X tene A Y | X conserves the attribute A on behalf of Y X tracte A apo Y | X withdraws the attribute A from Y --- As an exercise in making sure we understand Agent/Patient/Agent-Patient/Focus, we would change the structure from: Verboid | Subject | Direct Object | Ind Obj (preceded by a(d)) To: Verb | Agent | Patient | Agent-Patient | Focus "In summary, the three major case roles that are capable of being included within the valency of a verb are: agent - the entity responsible for the event described by the verb patient - the entity which experiences the state or change of state described by the verb focus - the entity which acts as the referent of a relationship with the patient" http://www.emba.uvm.edu/~mslason/lexical_semantics.html#2.0 So: > balle | motive agent | what is moved | -- balle | mover (motive agent) | what is moved | where it is moved to Actually, that's "mote" in the list, so I'm not sure why "balle" is required. >date | giver | what is given | recipient date | giver | recipient | what is given >detecte | finder | what is found | -- detecte | entity who finds something | person something is found for? | entity looking for something for themselves | item being sought http://www.emba.uvm.edu/~mslason/lexical_semantics.html#25.0 > dicte | speaker | what is said | audience dicte | speaker | who is spoken to | what is spoken about Want to do a couple?
