daft semivowels

Semivowels bother me. I've flipped back and forth in Tceqli, allowing
ai, ei, oi, ui to be diphthongs, because they look better to me than
ay, ey, etc. OTOH, ya ye, etc. look better to me than do ia, ie. And,
if I want to have minimal pairs like dya (dyah) and dia (DEE-ah).

So, I guess my basic question is, how daft would it be to make the rule
that ai,ei,oi,ui, plus au and eu, are diphthongs, but that vowel pairs
beginning with i and u are NOT diphthongs?

And if I did do that, should I abandon the dya dia possibility? It
seems inelegant to have y and i (and w and u) making the same sound,
even in different environments. If I'm going to let i and u become
semivowels, it seems like the y and w shouldn't be part of the alphabet
at all, at least with those values.

As you can see, I'm trying to finally baseline the spelling, at least,
so I can move on to greater things
