OTOH, if y and w disappear, we'll lose all those neat French (and 
other) borrowings like bwa, dwa, fwa, kwa.

At this point I'm talking myself into letting i and u participate in 
falling diphthongs only, and using y and w for rising ones.

I'm also thinking of being a little more discriminating in borrowing 
words that many of us think put a bit of a strain on pronunciation.  
This is all too subjective for me to put a name to any prospective rule 
I'm thinking of, but I feel that 'swa' is much easier to pronounce 
than 'swe,' for example, and I've tended to bring some combos like that 
in from Mandarin, mostly in an attempt to have lots of Mandarin words.  
Maybe I've gone too far with that.
