One has to be cautious about counting by number of syllables, though; it does not equate to actual phonetic duration. That said, my own personal preferences and intuitions favour syllable counting. --And. >>> rmay@hidden.email 04/17/02 02:03pm >>> on 4/17/02 4:51 AM, And Rosta at arosta@hidden.email wrote: > To some extent their frequency is a function of their length, with > monosyllabic > cmavo preferred to disyllabic. Another thing that struck me lately was the fact that you have Loglan words like djifoa, which are three syllables. They look shorter than they are, in effect, and somewhat defeat the purpose of the allomorph system. To make a combining allomorph, they convert forma into foa, and still have the same two syllables. The Ceqli equivalent might be dxoynform, only two syllables. -- >PLEASE NOTE MY NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS: rmay@hidden.email > Rex F.
