I just had a notion that maybe the word-shape rules are a little too kneejerk Loglan. Suppose this: 1. Basic word shape remains the same nCnN. one or more consonants followed by one or more vowels. But the structure word rules take a different direction. SW's have the shape PV(V), where P is a plosive (b, c, d, g, j, k, p, t. First off, that enables combining forms of content words that begin with nonplosives, which, to me, are smoother. That is, it's easier to say Zbanzo than Zbanto, for example. The allowed endings of words are best followed by nonplosives. Okay. And it gives us more sw's than the old rule. 40 of the PV, and oodles of PVV, especially if the juxtaposed vowel rules are relaxed a tad: Allowed vowel groups are of course the diphthongs: aw, ay, ey, oy, ya, ye, yo, yu, wa, we, wi, wo. That's 8x11 right there, or 88 more sw's. And we could stop there, and require that sw's be either PV or P(diphthong), or we could allow simple vowel pairs. In the first case, we'd hav 128 sw's, all one-syllable. In the second, we'd have a whole lot more. I'm inclined to go with the second just so we'll for sure have enough. Reactions? Alas, sa would have to become ta or ga or ba or something. -- >PLEASE NOTE MY NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS: rmay@hidden.email > Rex F.
