Emegali nouns are formed from Sumerian prefixes *nam- or *nig- attached to verbal forms. The prefix nam-/naC- indicates animate (masculine or feminine nouns) and the prefix nig-/niC- indicates inanimate nouns. The final consonant of the prefixes are assimilated to a following consonant. The choice of finite verb form is significant. The gender of the verb determines the gender of the noun. The 3rd person forms are 'neutral'. The 2nd persona pronouns indicate 'you call X 'X', but I don't necessarily agree'. The 1st person pronouns indicate a metaphorical use of the noun. Thus: namilagal 'king' nattalagal 'so-called king' nannilagal 'kings (metaphor)' namulagalu 'kings' namtalagal 'queen' nattalagala: 'so-called queen' namulagala: 'queens' nigilagal 'palace' nittilagal 'so-called palace' ninnilagal 'palaces (metaphorical)' What do you think of this system? Any suggestions on the implications of different verbal paradigms applied to this system (intensive, causative, passive)?
