modern Quebec french too

Note that the word "garce" however is an insult (akin to "bitch") and 
there is also the word "garçone" thought with the meaning of "tomboy".

You also have the southern france "pitchoune" (in quebec pitoune) 
meaning a young/cute girl (no idea of the etimology).
