Well I did think of calling it "Generic" and then claim it was named after the Germanic chieftain. But it would have to be |Genaerca| or something like that to fit the phonology. And I don't particularly like it. |Saexón| sounds nice, but would be too confusing. |Izlar| would limit me to an island and |Granvallés| to a large valley. My *best* idea is |Scolar| (or |Escolar|), after the scholars in charge of orthography conversion when borrowing learned words. > > This is a very generic language, spoken in an > > alternate universe. > > From the standpoint of *here*, it's a mixture > > of features from > > different romance branches. The problem in most cases is justifying the sound changes. 'Y' _is_ available, now that I've decided to use 'u' for [8]. But if I use it I'd like to use it systematically. I don't see how to get around the |est| problem in a way that fits the language. Changing the copula to |ess| doesn't help. The masculine forms I gave will have to be replaced, but with what? The regular forms would be |est| etc. I'm considering adding an 'o' to the situational forms (e.g. esto) if I can justify it(*), or maybe suffix some particle. (*) I'm using 'o' in the definite article, abstract form: Mas.Sing. le/l/o (and maybe el) Fem.Sing. la/lö (and maybe l or el) Abstract lò/lo Mas.Plur. los Fem.Plur. las > > This is already enough for now I think. > > We await more! Good, I'm going to present more problems in another email. And later, some preliminary texts. Right now all I have is stuff like: "Pellos buens filhes de San Giosafad!"
