There's some info about the differences between CL and VL. And about the number of Latins: don't forget that there is another one: Medieval Latin. Has little or nothing in common with Vulgar Latin. > btw, I suspect that the bookstore English/Latin Latin/English > dictionaries are all Classical Latin...am I correct? Unfortunately so. There are some excellent resources on Vulgar Latin, but not AFAIK dictionaries. When I need a word in Wenedyk, I usually check several dictionaries: Classical Latin, French, Italian, Romanian, Ladin, and sometimes, when those don't help, Spanish or Portuguese. The problem with VL is that very little of it is attested; it is mostly a language reconstruction based on the living Romance languages. A book where you can find lots of samples is: P. Boyd-Bowman, "From Latin to Romance in Sound Charts".
