The votes have been tallied and the results are in. *Traitor is now malavi. I took the suggestion offered by faceloran to metathsesize the l and v. I think this will be marked in the dictionary as a "disputed" etymology, since there are bound to be several folk etymologies bantered about. *Velvet is now magmau. This one was unanimous. Apparently everyone agreed with mugmau sounding orkish! *Marraeju is hammer. I might retain mizdraga as some specialized hammer as suggested, but I'm not so sure about it being a war hammer. I don't remember the Saracens using war hammers. Did they? Also, I already have magava (< Sem. mqqbh) as a special metal-worker's hammer/punch. *Minor is mindru. Minoru might end up as a "learned" borrowing for some specilized meaning. VL minorem would still give "minoru" as the dictionary citation form. All adjectives are cited in masculine form, unless they refuse to agree with their nouns. The derivation of mindru is as follows: Lt. minor > /'minor/ > minro > C-a mindru The stress regularized to the penult at the same time that the long and short vowels merged. Final "r" either changes to /l/ > /u/ (mainly in monosylabic function words and later Arabic borrowings) or metath's with the preceeding consonant to preserve to vowel final rule. The sequences |nr| > /ndr/ and |mr| > /mbr/. These are not frequent changes but they're fun when they do pop up. *Mine is now miera. I'll definitely keep medaju on as the word for "metal" since it failed to remain as mine. Though I would suppose that medaju would have had to function in both capacities until the Norman Sicilians arrival in the 1200's. Maybe mining was neglected by the Saracens. Local pottery and tessera manufacture appearantly were. And medicu has meen dropped as too close to medicu. some one asked about dropping the |i| and what the C-a result would be. Well, the |i| is the stressed vowel in the C-a form so it wouldn't drop, but IF it did for some untold reason . . . /medcu/ > /megdu/ > /mebU/ spelled |mebu|.
