So, has _kiere_. > > How are they spelled? Just with ye and waw (with fathe)? You've got it! _ie_ is "ya-fath'a", and _ue_ is "waw-fath'a", treated as matres lectionis, that is the preceding consonant doesn't take "sokuno". If these sequences are vocalized consonants, that is "y+short a" and "w+short a", the preceding consonant *must* take "sokuno" (or "hamza"+"alef" initially) to avoid ambiguity. So _kwando_ 'when' is written as kaf-sokuno-waw-fath'a-nun-(sokuno)-dal- z'amma; _uevo_ 'egg' as alef_mahmuzo-waw-fath'a-ba-z'amma. As you see, in non-ambiguos cases sokuno can easily be omitted. On the other hand, so called long _e_ is "fath'a+ya" and _o_ is "fath'a+waw", and fath'a is omitted in "minimally vocalized text". So, infinitive _kerer_ (kaf-ya-ra-ya-ra) and personal form _kiere_ (kaf-ya-ra-ha) exhibit root uniformity in non-vocalized text. Root uniformity is important principle for spelling esp. to decide if to write "short" or "long" vowel. > >In closed syllables > >it may happen due to apocope: _kien_ < earlier _kiene_. I'm trying to keep uniformity in spelling both IR and Ar words the same way both in LTS and Ar script. It cannot be _rr_ because geminated /rr/ > /R/ only in IR words. 'The colleague' is still _er- rafigo_ (actually, spelled without hyphen in the native script) - the definite article gets assimilated to solar consonants. If I find an Arabic word with geminated /r/ inside, I'll show the example too. Initial IR /r/ which indeed is [r] too, contrasted to [4] otherwise, is kept intect: _rueda_ 'wheel'. -- Yitzik hoping it was not too long...
