If I'm not mistaken, Span. alcalde is from Arab. qa(d)i, where the (d) was emphatic. Indonesian has this word too, as simple kadi. Indonesian also has _perlu_ 'to need', which I think has an emph. _d_ in the Arab. (usually cited as "fadlu" or some such) though I could be mistaken.
