En réponse à Steg Belsky <draqonfayir@hidden.email>: > > It sounds good to me! > Now i'm wondering how to get Ju:d,ajca: to become VSO, too... :-P > Find some historical background! :) As for my Arabo-Romance lang, I've thought of a group of Romans (soldiers, evading prisoners? I still don't know) arriving in an oasis in the middle of Arabia Felix (don't know how likely it is). The point is that they are *all men*. When they arrive there they take over the place, killing most (all?) men and taking their wives, to whom they teach as much Latin as possible (as well as they can) while they learn a bit of Proto-Arabic (not much, in their opinion they have to speak Latin). This situation of bilingualism leads to a fast evolution of the language (since the children born from those families learn mostly the tentative Latin spoken by the women - language goes by the mothers :) -) over a few generations, and leads to an interesting situation where the men and women speak Arabo-Romance, but where women still keep a separate "secret" language which is Arabic with a Romance superstrate (Romance-Arabic). Well, I don't know how likely is this story (probably not at all :( ) but at least it leads to a period of semi-creolization of Latin which would explain the big changes in grammar and phonology between Latin and Arabo-Romance. Still, I don't want complete creolization. Arabo-Romance has to come definitely from Latin :) . Christophe. http://rainbow.conlang.free.fr
