Interestingly enough, I was thinking about this only a few weeks ago. The
idea came about because it as been suggested that the Rhaetian dialects are
the remnants of a much larger romance-speaking area, which once covered
Switzerland, Austria and southern Germany.

Try Brittanica online, that's where I got most of my information about
Romance langs from. A couple of years back I did a project on the evolution
of German, and I found it invaluable.
