lesson18: Did you finish getting ready for the shopping mall? Kibe pi posa caytenja tumi binye? sts: why "pi posa" and not simply "popi"? dictionary: tufudi - between, betwixt. Tufudimba mi meswa cayvyu ne naswa = I put the mustard between the meat and the soup.sts: i suppose "tufudi" means "being between" (tufudi-nde) and not "going between" (tufudi-nge). so the sentence in english and katanda do mean that "(when i was) between the meat and the soup i put the mustard" but to where?
i think that the dictionary should always show the part of speech of word. at least the standard of the word should be shown, in this way, i mean: "naski = naskinsa". that makes it easier for me to understand the word in the katanda semantics/grammar. in katanda i must always keep in mind the CCMs, one thing that in other languages i normally don't do (i only have to keep in mind if the verb is transitive or not).
lesson18: Mary and I slowly entered the building side-by-side. Fudinja Kamaryabyo ne mi vu twetudi bucaynsatse.sts: strange. i just thought that actually there is no link from "twetudi". so this sentence doesn't express that it's "Mary and I" that were going side by side, does it? does "twetudi" modify directly the verb, or does it modify the whole core argument structure of the verb? would the difference lie in "twetudindetse"/"twetudindende"? i'm not absolutely sure now.
lesson18: I won't allow you to sell the coal in the cellar. Goy bube dunva mi tumi jabusesku buze dindu bucito.sts: i thought that every word has a standard part of speach. seemingly this is not true. if "dunva" were derived from a verb "du" then there would be a conflict between this verb "du" and the disjunct "du".
lesson18: I intend to be an example of an intelligent scientist and a wise teacher. Catsanza mi jafutsa babyo kogo va ne kobyo konsa va.sts: but "intend to" means "want to have the purpose of" in this example, doesn't it? it doesn't mean "keep oneself having the porpose of".
lesson18: I almost told the wealthy people to stay outside the fence. Da sayeva mi lebyo sensa jabufudinza mokxe.sts: the english sentence said that the order was given to stay outside the fence, whereas the katanda sentence said that someone said "staying outside the fence". this doesn't imply to give the order to stay outside the fence.
lesson18: Let's exchange our binoculars for a telescope. Bagompoy tusku gami tupevenyo gafoy vamse pevenyo va. sts: why not simply always use after the imperative the subject of the verb? lesson18: Why aren't you allowing Michelle to leave her apartment? Bube dunva kivakxe tumi Kamexebyo jabudinja bito meho?sts: why "kivakxe" can appear before the core argument structere finished? it confuses me a little bit.
lesson18: The chef entered the hot dry kitchen and put the bread on the stove. Fudinja mebyo meto bunansa mensa ne javodimba caswa mespu.sts: what is "ne" linking? two sentences or two verbs? is "javodimba caswa mespu" a sentence? what if it isn't?
lesson18: How low are the windows in the banker's penthouse? Bucinsanda levekxe kiva di xuto te sebyo?sts: hm, this means that i ask "that being low in the penthouse of the banker - how much is it?" i'd prefer "Bucinsanda levekxe dindu xuto te sebyo kiva?"
