In addition, specific common "� + root" <'CC*> sequences could be replaced with symbols from ASCII or Unicode. So <nm'p'd'tr> could be written <nm123> or maybe <#123>.

I like the idea of defining most commonly used nonalphabet symbols as orthographic abbreviations either of phoneme sequences (as in English textese "gr8, b4") or of morphemes.
