It occurs to me in the light of day that an alternative would be to make compounds out of the words for "three-zeroes", "six-zeroes", etc. and have them be our "kilo" and "mega". But the current prefixes are so well established throughout the world....and I'm not clear how we'd do "milli" and "micro". Maybe we should also be asking "how do we represent powers, particularly powers of 10"? --K
