But not for native Ceqli words. Please? 1) 'Bat' and 'bet' sound alike to most non-English speakers. Even Koreans, whose written language distinguishes these two sounds, report that they have a hard time telling the difference (though not so 600 years ago) 2) 'oe' would sound like a stressed schwa, but I think we're going to need to reserve schwa for consonant cluster buffering. (But I could bend on this one as long as 'oe' is clearly pronounced.) 3) 'ue' is a sound that English and Spanish speakers, among others, have great difficulty with. But the concept of permitting digraphs for a foreign sounds is a fine one, as long as they don't collide with existing morpheme shapes.
