I prefer #2, the symmetrical approach: txu = chew xu = shoe meydjar = major meyjar = measure Or... If the Latin connection is very important, do as the Romans did: use 'C' for the 'k' sound everywhere, even before front vowels. Then you could eschew 'K', or use it for the Scottish 'CH', or a glottal stop, or that voiceless glottal thing they do in Arabic. Or... Go semi-symmetric. Acknowledge the frequency of phonemes 'tsh', 'sh', 'dzh', and 'zh', and the rarity of 'ts' and 'dz': qu = chew xu = shoe meyjar = major meycar = measure (No more 'q' = 'ng' :-( ! 'ng' would probably have to become non- phonemic. That would break Rex's heart, I'll bet. I can't say I'm thrilled with this last proposal.)
