Delaying it is possible, but any time before the conquest of the Avar Khaganate by the Carolingian Empire (circa 846) is unlikely, and any time after the Hungarians (circa 901) is impossible. I'm not quite sure when lenition started in Gaul, but I can't imagine it to be too far off. Wikipedia says that lenition became frequent in the 7th century, therefore it would likely arrive two hundred years later when connections with the West were reestablished.
So lenition (including degemination) will take place in ~850 AD. This change will likely precede the apocope of unstressed -i and -u, which began in the early 10th century (and this change is common to Slavic and Hungarian as well.)
