Do you mean in Aquiliad? It seems that one Epaminodas of Alexandria had "visions from the future" which allowed him to invent steam powered motor cars and ships capable of travelling across the Atlantic. One character that appears really only towards the end of the story is the Time Criminal, who has been mucking about in a number of timelines, including the one in the novel, and who is being chased by some sort of interdimensional police force. So I'm guessing that history was roughly "the same" as *here* until this Time Criminal came along to sow some seeds of futurity.
