Try S.P. Somtow's "Aquiliad". It's got everything. Time travel, bloodthirsty Aztecs, pompous Roman administrators, steam powered waggons, loony-tune emperor, airships and plenty of adventure. Probably even has olifants. There's quite a bit of Latin sprinkled throughout (for example, all the Natives' names are translated into Latin) which I think you might be able to appreciate at once. It actually provided some inspiration for a couple aspects of life and history in the World. Tis one of the few (fantasy) books I've read multiple times and liked it each time through. Love his writing style in this book as well. I see from Amazon that the second two books have been published: i: Aquila in the New World, ii: Aquila and the Iron Horse, iij: Aquila and the Sphinx. Haven't read the other two, but will definitely look into them now that I know they're out! To: romconlang@yahoogroups.com Date: Wednesday, April 4, 2012, 11:39 AM I would like to read something like that. They could also have gone to Siberia or the like. Writing stories myself I find very difficult. /Thomas [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
