Lhinghia Latsina [Lin.gja la.tsi.na] Lhinghia Latsina consonantal phonology is pretty vanilla (the difference between -di [dzi] and -zi [dzi] is in the palatalization of the nominative form prior to the characteristic vowel shift). Vowels, on the other hand, underwent merging in the following sequence. 1.palatalization and affricativization before front vowels 2.[e] and [u] merged into [i], phonemicizing the affricates 3.Roots gained characteristics of changing or unchanging. Thus binhinutis "well-known (m.nom.sg.)", binhinutsi "well-known (m.gen.sg./m.nom.pl.)" but midzis "middle (m.nom.sg.)", midzi "middle (m.gen.sg./m.nom.pl). a [a] b [b] c [k], [tS]; [k] > [tS]/_i ch [k] ? used before [i] d [d] e [e] f [f] g [g], [d_Z]; [g] > [dZ]/_[i] gh [g] ? used before [i] h [0] i [i], [j]; [i]> [j]/_V l [l] lh [L] m [m] n [n] nh [J] o [o] p [p] r [r], [j] [r] > [j]?_[i] rh [r] ? used before [i] s [s] t [t] ts [ts] u [u] x [ks] y = i z [dz]
