Well, there are some similarities since it is a Romance language, but Potuguese is not the closest relative. I'm really not sure how to answer the question. C-a sort of straddles the border between Western Ronance and Eastern Romance. It forms plurals like WR (-s rather than -i), but does some things with its consonants that are very much ER (such as qu > p [> b or v depending on environment]). The vowel system is "Sardinian." In matters of vocabulary C-a probably matches best with the Iberian languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Galician, Aragonese, etc.) due to the similarly heavy influence of Arabic. Geographically, the nearest Romlang is Sicilian, but I don't really know enough about Sicilian to telly you how closely they're really related. By now you should be as confused as I am!
