Thanks for the quick reply. I've thought about something like that (*ILLE-IPSE/*IPSE-ILLE) but the results turn out too long for a 3rd person pronoun. Another thing I've tried is reworking the sound changes by starting with Classical Latin long-short vowel system (about 10 vowels) instead of Vulgar Latin's 7 thus making it easier to make my English-like sound changes closer to the real thing. I also reduce the amount of final vowel reduction. Doing that, I have much less leveling and retain enough final vowel distinctions for gender distinction.
