My question is this: is there any "standard" Atlantean conlang to use as a basis for sound changes to apply to Vulgar Latin, or would I have to create at least basic phonology for ancient Atlantean myself?
Apparently the guy who did Vulcan and Klingon also did an Atlantean conlang for a Disney film: <http://www.langmaker.com/atlanteanmetahistory.htm>
But I'm not sure if that counts as "standard Atlantean" :)You could pick something like Sumerian as a starting point, or Basque, or some American Indian language (working from the idea that the contemporary speakers of these languages are the linguistics descendants of Atlantean speakers. If you're lucky my might turn up some resources on Proto-Nahuatl or Iberian or the like to draw on.
(I've entertained a vague plan for a couple of years to draw on the Chibcha languages of northern South America for use in a kind of "Atlantesque" situation, but have been slowed by my poor understanding of the source material!)
